Where the Heart Is by Billie Lets

This is a great book! It's about a seventeen year old girl who is seven months pregnant and thirty-seven pounds overweight, who is very supersticious about the number seven. Her boyfriend ditches her at Wal-Mart with $7.77 and a few other personal items. She has nowhere to live so ends up living in the Wal-Mart. She makes a few new friends along the way. She ends up having her baby in the Wal-Mart and becomes a sort of celebrity. She names the baby girl Americus, oh and by the way the girls name is Novalee Nation. The two go through a long journey of love and loss and happiness. And as the book progresses you see Novalee transform from an uneducated, pregnant, girl to a smart, dedicated, mother. The perspective sometimes switches to Willy Jack, the father of Americus, so you know what he's doing too. I thought it was just great, absolutely great. The book was made into a movie with Natalie Portman as Novalee and the movie is great too, but the book is always better.
This book does have some language in it but otherwise is perfect for anyone.
